Hi, I'm Felicity

I am a birthkeeper based in Heidelberg Heights, Victoria. I do travel up to 45 minutes away. I've had two beautiful boys with very different births. My first was a hospital birth and my second babe was born in the bath at home!

I am passionate about supporting you on your journey. I have complete faith in the birthing process.

Before becoming a doula I was a paediatric nurse. I particularly loved neurosurgery and I even got to watch brain surgery at one stage. I consider my experience working with children and their families invaluable to my development as a doula. Over my nursing career I had the honour of working with families through their journey. I gained experience with death and tragic situations. I learned to remain calm and level headed in intense life threatening situations.

Once aspect of nursing I loved was building rapport and talking to mothers. I would often get waylaid talking and chatting to mothers as I loved hearing their accounts on motherhood. I had always been very clucky and as I cared for mothers and babies I cherry picked information that I would use in the future with my children.

The majority of my career was spent as the largest tertiary paediatric hospitals in the state. I learnt so much during my time there. I am so grateful for my my time as a paediatric nurse, it has provided me with an amazing set of skills and knowledge.

I fell pregnant in 2018 and I had envisioned a natural birth but hadn't done much preparing. I had read a hypnobirthing book but that was about it. I had a go with the flow approach. I didn't know or understand my rights as a birthing person and I didn't know I could say NO. I was induced and ended up having an epidural. My son's birth was the catalyst for my resignation as a nurse and the start of my doula work. I studied a doula course for a year before returning to nursing and putting doula work on hold.

The coronavirus pandemic shifted a lot of things into perspective for me. When I became pregnant with my second son in 2020 I knew I was going to do things differently. I hired an amazing doula and decided to take matters into my own hands for my second birth. I did a lot of hard work mentally and I birthed my second son at home in the bath, drug free. It was the most incredible experience of my life. Vastly different to my first birth.

When I'm not talking about birth or being a birthkeeper, I can usually be found pottering about in my garden. I love growing natives and have a flourishing veggie/herb patch.

I love reading when I'm not busy being a Mum. I also enjoy kitchen dance parties with my boys and tending to my indoor jungle.

I support women who wish to freebirth or birth at home. I cannot support hospital birth as I cannot put myself into situations where I face moral dilemmas. I tailor my care to fit what you decide to do. I will provide the tools and guidance based on your choices. Every woman deserves to have someone there to guide and assist them in making educated choices about their pregnancy, and remind them that they can trust the strength of their bodies during this time. I’m here to provide unbiased information and emotional support. I am no longer registered as a nurse and do not provide any medical information or perform any medical activities such as blood pressure monitoring. I am strictly there to support a woman emotionally through her journey.
